What is different about buying a horse from Canada?
Random Question, but I was just wondering about it. If you live in the United States, what's different about buying a horse from Canada than the U.S? Is it more expensive? Does it need a passport?
Thanks!
No, a horse doesn't require a passport at all in North America, that's European thing.
To get a horse across the boarder for permanent export they require a negative Coggins test within the last six months, an export exam done checking blood for communicable diseases, proof of sale/ownership, and transportation (which you require brokerage if using a professional hauler).
Buying a horse from another country really isn't worth it unless it is an amazing horse that is exactly what you're looking for. They aren't much more expensive although a lot of people will buy slaughter rescues from Canada since there are still slaughter houses open up there.
